Ikot Abasi ~ The Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), which has been closed for over a decade because of legal issues, will soon reopen.
The Minister for Budget and Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, announced this on Tuesday during the APC campaign rally in Ikot Abasi.
Senator Udoma, a member of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), said almost all the obstacles that made the company shut down have been removed.
“All the obstacles in the way have, one by one, been removed. The only thing left is gas supply. The Nigerian Gas Company issued a statement that, in a few weeks time, it will be resolved. So, ALSCON will soon reopen,” he said.
The minister, who hails from Ikot Abasi, seized the opportunity to canvass support for President Muhammadu Buhari and Obong Nsima Ekere, the APC Presidential and Governorship Candidates in the forthcoming in elections.
Said he: “I have come here to let the world know that a prophet is recognised in his own place. Our people are solidly behind Nsima Ekere…
“I have come here to bear testimony about President Muhammadu Buhari. He is a good man. He is a kind man. He is somebody who loves Akwa Ibom people. He has given us many appointments and he will give us more when he wins. It is important that we don’t play opposition. He is going to win.
“Everything has its time. This is the first time an Ikot Abasi person is on the ticket of a major political party. So, our time has come.”
