Obot Akara local government government area on Tuesday unanimously rejected the candidacies of Udom Emmanuel and Chris Ekpenyong for the offices of Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senator of the Federal Republic in the forthcoming elections, while endorsing in #ONE accord Obong Nsima Ekere for governor of the state and Senator Godswill Akpabio to continue as a representative of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the 9th Senate.
Speaking through the deputy director-general of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Abom Tony Esu, at the APC election campaign rally in Nto Edino, headquarters of Obot Akara, the people said they took the decision because of the poor performance and lack of transparency of the PDP administration in the state in the last three and half years.
Obot Akara people complained that they had waited forever for Governor Udom Emmanuel to give them dividends of democracy in terms of infrastructure and other forms of life enablers without seeing any even when Akwa Ibom State still leads as the highest earning state in federal allocation.
They condemned the prevalence of hunger and poverty in the state, which they describe as one of Nigeria’s richest states, and said it was time for all Akwa Ibom people to collectively reject Governor Emmanuel, his party, the PDP.
They assured Obong Nsima Ekere and the APC that Obot Akara is an APC stronghold, adding that on election days of February 16 and March 2, Obot Akara would vote 100 percent for the APC.
