The people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area have endorsed the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obong Nsima Ekere, for the March 2, 2019 governorship election.
The endorsement came when Obong Ekere consulted opinion leaders of the local government area at the Women War Memorial Centre, Ikot Abasi, on Sunday.
A motion moved by Elder Ufok Frank Enoidem, the President-General of Mboho Ikot Abasi and seconded by Prof. Leo Ukpong, the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Uyo, was unanimously adopted by the mammoth crowd of Ikot Abasi elders, youths and women that turned up for the event.
Moving the motion, Elder Enoidem said the non-partisan support for Obong Ekere, their son, across the local government area was based on the infrastructural development he has attracted to Ikot Abasi as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
“This is not a party affair. There is nothing like party here. As far as Ikot Abasi is concerned, it is a movement of Ikot Abasi people,” he said.
Speaking, Obong Ekere expressed delight with the tremendous support he has received from the people of Ikot Abasi and Akwa Ibom State since his 2019 governorship ambition started.
He stated that victory for the APC was certain because of the exodus from the PDP and the poor performance of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
“In Akwa Ibom State today, virtually everybody, the entire political class of this state, who nurtured PDP, who made PDP thick, have all left PDP to APC. The entire state is with us. The good news is that even PDP people know that they have lost the election. We don’t hate the Governor. We are only saying that he has not done as he should and that Akwa Ibom State deserves much better,” he said.
Obong Ekere said the level of poverty in the state was unacceptable because of the huge revenue that accrue to the state.
Senator Ita Enang, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Organization, lauded Ikot Abasi people for supporting Obong Ekere across party lines.
“Ikot Abasi, this is your chance,” he said.
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the Minister for Budget and Planning, represented by Barr Abasiubong Okoko, a former Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government, also thanked Ikot Abasi people for supporting Obong Ekere and hinted that he would soon take a leave from his office to focus on the APC campaigns in Akwa Ibom State.
