Stakeholders of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Eket Local Government Area have vowed to leave no stone unturned in delivering victory for the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere, and other candidates of the party in the general elections.
To this end, they have resolved to target a 90 per cent win for the APC in all the elections from the 75 per cent position the party was presently in Eket.
The stakeholders stated their position during a meeting with Ekere, who visited them at the residence of a former Secretary of Eket Local Government, Barr. Umoetuk Umoetuk, on Wednesday.
Among the stakeholders that spoke at the meeting were Umoetuk, a former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Emem Wills, the APC House of Representatives’ Candidate for Eket/Esit Eket/Ibeno/ONNA Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Kufre Akpabio, the APC House of Assembly Candidate for Eket State Constituency, Mr. Charles Ebongho, a member of the APC State Executive Committee, Mr. Duke Duke, a former Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board, Obong Ime Isine, the APC Chairmanship Candidate in the 2017 Local Government elections, Mr. Francis Imose (Mkpasa), a former Councillor, Chief David Ukpaukure, a seasoned medical doctor, Dr. Ekanem Ekanem, a political activist, Engr. Iniobong Udiongo and a woman leader, Obonganwan Grace Uso.
A former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ime Umodioh, moved everyone close to tears when she said she was resolute in supporting Ekere in line with the admonition of her late husband and fellow medical doctor, Dr. Anthony Umodioh, who, in his dying days, told her to be unwavering in her support till Ekere won the governorship election.
Responding, Ekere, who is also the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), thanked the Eket APC stakeholders for their show of support but urged them to work harder for the party’s victory at the unit level.
He revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari was so impressed by the turnout at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium during the recent flag-off of the APC presidential campaign in the South-South Zone that the President told him (Ekere) that the crowd was far more than the crowd that welcomed him during his 2015 presidential campaign in Akwa Ibom State.
