The ambition of the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, received another boost on Thursday when he was endorsed by the Non-Indigenous Women Leaders in the state.
The women leaders, representing the Niger Delta, Arewa, Igbo and Yoruba women residents in the state, endorsed Obong Ekere during a solidarity visit to his wife, Ese, at his campaign grounds in Uyo.
Mrs. Florence Ade and Mrs. Rose Essien, the President and Vice President of the Niger Delta Women group, based their endorsement on Obong Ekere’s superlative performance as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Mrs. Henrietta Okafor, the President of the Igbo Women group, said they were inspired to support Obong Ekere by his wife’s humility and compassion for the less-privileged.
Mrs. Clara Emmanuel, the President of the Yoruba Women group, charged Mrs. Ekere and her husband to be confident of victory because every candidate the non-indigenes supported in the past won.
Hajiya Zainab Hassan Sadauki, the President of the Arewa Women group, said their support was necessitated by the lofty programmes contained in Obong Ekere’s blueprint which he made public on Monday.
Responding, Mrs. Ekere thanked the women for the endorsement and promised to ensure that they were carried along in the incoming APC State Government.
She, however, solicited prayers for herself and her husband for the days ahead.
Mrs. Ekere decried the state of women under the present State Government and promised to build on the foundation laid by Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the immediate past State Governor, and do more for Akwa Ibom women.
Mrs. Geraldine Ita Etuk, the Director of Women in the APC Campaign Organization, expressed delight with the quality of the visiting women leaders and expressed confidence that they will be steadfast in marching with the APC to Government House in 2019.
Present during the visit were Mrs. Uduak Attai, the wife of the APC Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate, and Mrs. Idara Okopido, the wife of the APC State Chairman.
